Whether you are new to competitive swimming or have previous experience, the Talent Pathway Squads provide a progressive training programme with the opportunity for children to enter competitions and progress into the Performance Pathway Squads.

There are three squads in the Talent Pathway offering training for swimmers aged 7 through to 17 years.  All swimmers are given the opportunity to become members of the Harrogate District Swimming Club and this covers membership to Swim England, allowing swimmers to enter competitions and take part in club social and educational events.  There are no minimum attendance levels in the Talent Pathway allowing swimmers to train and compete whilst also maintaining other interests.

Swimmers interested in joining will be asked to attend a trial; this is to ensure that they have a suitable level of skill and physical conditioning before being offered a place in the relevant training group.  Trials are held at the Hydro on a quarterly basis.

Swimmers can progress to the Performance Pathway Squads by following the CORE values of the Harrogate Borough Council Competitive Swimming Programme.  The CORE values are: Commitment, Ownership, Responsibility and Excellence.  Moving to the Performance Pathway Squads will require swimmers and parents to make a long-term commitment to the sport and be the individual's main sporting focus.

Additional Information

All sessions are delivered by fully qualified coaches who provide a progressive training programme to develop physical, technical and tactical skills.

A swimmer's age will be considered to be the age at which they are eligible to compete at the next Summer National Championships.  This is based on year of birth, for example a swimmer born in 2009 will be considered as a 10 year old until August 2019 when the Summer National Championships have been completed.

To progress to the Performance Pathway, the following criteria must be achieved:

CORE values Criteria
Commitment

80% Training attendance plus attendance at home and away competitions

Ownership and Responsibility Swimmer complies with Training Agreement
Excellence Swimmer has long-term goals in line with Performance Pathway goals

Trials for the Performance Pathway Squads will be held twice per season.  Coaches will invite swimmers that demonstrate the CORE values of the Competitive Swimming Programme.  Trials will consist of one month's training in the relevant Performance Pathway Squad to assess suitability for a permanent move.
